Sinbad: Comic Loses His Home, But Lands A TV Special

There's good news and bad news for comedian Sinbad.

Reports surfaced in Dec. 2009 that the 53-year-old funnyman had declared bankruptcy after the IRS claimed he had $8.15 million in debt. Additionally, Sinbad's bankruptcy filing listed $10 million to $50 million in liabilities, while claiming the comic had less than $50,000 in assets.

Now comes word that the former star of films like 'Houseguest,' 'First Kid' and 'Jingle All the Way' is having to give up his $1.5 million Hidden Hills, Calif. home to make good on the debt.

Sinbad's house has hit the market for $3 million. The five-bedroom home was purchased in 2007 and sits on 2.4 acres with a guest house, recording studio, pool and a barn.

While the Benton Harbor, Mich. native may be struggling on the financial front, things are looking up professionally.

On Feb. 21, Comedy Central will premiere Sinbad's hour-long special, 'Sinbad: Where U Been.'

The standup show, which airs at 10pm EST, will showcase the comic's jokes on everything from being married to President Barack Obama.

The special will be released on DVD on Feb 23 and will feature 45 minutes of never-aired material.

Sinbad, who hosted the 2009 Stellar Gospel Awards, is also a contestant on the third season of Donald Trump's 'Celebrity Apprentice,' which premieres March 14.

White Washed: Shaun Robinson Disturbed By Vanity Fair's Blackout

It is obvious that Vanity Fair magazine didn't get the memo on the so-called "post racial America," a term that is constantly overused now that Barack Obama is President of the United States.

For their 16th annual Hollywood Issue, Vanity Fair put the emphasis on "fair" with a cover spread shot by acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz and only included white actresses. The only thing diverse about this cover is the actresses' hair color and their ages, which range from 19 to 27-years old.

'Access Hollywood' host Shaun Robinson, who released a self-esteem and advice book for young women called 'Exactly As I Am' last year, is extremely alarmed by the message that the Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue sends.

"I wrote a book on girls and self-esteem and what I keep hearing again and again is that young women want to see variety, this year we're going to see our most diverse Oscar red carpet in years. We should see that reflected on television and on our magazine covers," she said.

Robinson, an Emmy Award winning news anchor, believes that beyond the monthly magazine's monochromatic view of the industry, Hollywood itself has to answer for its lack of diversity.

"The sad part is we're only talking about two young black actresses, Zoe [Saldana of 'Avatar'] and Gabourey [Sidibe of 'Precious']. If the criteria to be considered for the cover of Vanity Fair is that the actresses must have a body of work behind them; then the question is, where are all the mainstream roles for all the terrific and qualified young actresses - Black, Hispanic, Asian and Indian? Where are they? Who otherwise could have been considered? But maybe what we want Vanity Fair to do is not to follow Hollywood's lead, but to take the lead in changing attitudes and celebrate the many diverse and talented actresses out there, because a picture is worth a thousand words," Robinson declared.

In response to the backlash about their all-white cover feature, the Conde Nast-published glossy that has a noted history of resistance in showcasing African-American celebrities on its cover, issued the following statement: "Deciding who will appear on the Hollywood issue cover - and within the issue itself - is a long process, and one we take seriously. For the young actresses on the cover, both films coming this year and past work were taken into consideration, as were schedules and availability, since we had to shoot all nine actresses in a single day."

On the cover of its 2008 Hollywood Issue, Latino-American actresses Saldana, 31, and America Ferrera ('Ugly Betty'), 25, were both included - though on the inside gatefold and not the front cover.

Most argue that Oscar nominee Sidibe should have been featured on the cover - she is however included on an inside spread about 'Precious' with director Lee Daniels and co-star Mo'Nique.

Nonetheless, there are also other actresses with promising careers and some solid projects under their belt that could have been featured in the Hollywood Issue.

Ingénues such as Naturi Naughton ('Fame'), 25; Freida Pinto ('Slumdog Millionaire'), 25; Monique Coleman ('High School Musical'), 29; Dani Ramirez ('X-Men'), 30; and Jurnee Smollett ('The Great Debaters'), 23; all fit the criteria that Vanity Fair claims they utilize in selecting actresses.

Ultimate Hustler: Karrine Steffans Partners With Larry Flynt

Former video vixen turned New York Times bestselling author Karrine Steffans has inked a deal with adult entertainment mogul Larry Flynt to become the resident sex and intimacy consultant for his Hustler flagship store in West Hollywood, Calif.

As a part of the strategic partnership, Steffans, who is married to 'The Young and the Restless' star Darius McCrary, will teach a monthly course using her own tome, 'The Vixen Manual: How to Find, Seduce, & Keep the Man You Want' as the guide.

"I am beyond excited about my partnership with Hustler Hollywood and Larry and Theresa Flynt. The Flynt organization has been amazing to work with and our couples courses are guaranteed to be fun and informative," Steffans told BV Buzz exclusively.

Steffans, who also penned the books 'Confessions of a Video Vixen' and 'The Vixen Diaries,' will teach her first class, 'Lingerie & Lap Dances' on Feb. 18.

In addition to teaching the course, the 31-year-old author will also have a product bundle sold in the Hustler stores called The Vixen Manual Pleasure Pack, which combines the book and several Hustler products.

"The Vixen Manual Pleasure Pack is intended to jump-start the prowess and inhibitions of both individuals and couples alike," explained Steffans.

The product package will be available at Hustler boutiques nationwide and online.

Boxer Business: Actor Mehcad Brooks Strips Down For Calvin Klein

Actor Mehcad Brooks, who currently stars on the ABC drama 'The Deep End,' is one of four celebrities featured in Calvin Klein Underwear's new ad campaign.

To launch the brand's new X collection, Calvin Klein tapped Brooks along with Kellan Lutz ('Twilight'), tennis star Fernando Verdasco and soccer star Hidetoshi Nakata to appear in four separate advertisements that hit retail stores this month.

There will also be broadcast and taxi TV spots, in addition to print and outdoor ads.

"The four different guys give us different ways to express things," said Bob Mazzoli, chief creative officer for Calvin Klein Underwear. "They have different personalities, and that helps in our dialogue with our consumers."

Photographer Mikael Jansson shot the advertisements in New York.

In addition to starring on ABC's new court drama, the 29-year-old Brooks has also starred on 'Desperate Housewives,' 'True Blood' and 'The Game.'

Cougar Crush: Omarion Is Hot For Halle

Now that cougars are all the rage, 25-year-old singer Omarion has a cougar crush of his own.

BV Buzz asked the singer what older woman had his eye and he choose Oscar winner Halle Berry.

"It would definitely be Halle Berry," the singer confessed. "I think it would even be interesting to sit down and talk to her about her views about relationships."

The former B2K singer said he's attracted to the 43-year-old beauty because "she seems like such a woman in control."

"I don't know if it's so much control that she wouldn't allow a man to be a man," he clarified. "I wouldn't say I'm bossy, but a lot of being a man is being stern and to be like, 'I want you to do this.' I don't know if she would be like, 'I'm not doing this. I'm gonna do what I wanna do' or be submissive. I don't know if I would be like, 'Baby, can you make me a sandwich?' and she'd be like, 'No!'"

Omarion, who was just joined MTV's 'America's Best Dance Crew' as a new judge, recently released his third solo CD 'Ollusion.'

Soul Suit: Jill Scott Being Sued By Record Label

R&B singer Jill Scott is being sued by her longtime record label, Hidden Beach Records.

In the suit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Hidden Beach accuses 37-year-old neo soul star of abandoning her six-album contract and conceivably owing them millions of dollars in damages.

"Hidden Beach is shocked by her decision not only because Scott has apparently chosen to leave the Hidden Beach family, but also because Scott is contractually required to deliver three more albums to Hidden Beach," the complaint reads.

The Grammy-winning singer signed to Hidden Beach Records by the label's founder Steve McKeever more than 10 years ago.

The Philadelphia-bred artist delivered the label three studio albums -- the double-platinum 'Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1' in 2000; the gold-certified 'Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2' in 2004; and the gold-certified 'The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3' in 2007.

Scott has also released two live CDs; the gold-certified 'Experience: Jill Scott 826+' in 2001 and the gold-certified 'Live In Paris+' in 2008. A special duets compilation called 'Collaborations' was released in 2007. The set featured Scott's works with artists ranging from Will Smith to The Isley Brothers.

According to one music executive, live albums and Christmas CDs typically don't account for the fulfillment of an artist's contract.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hidden Beach's complaint alleges Scott breached her contract and asks for damages owed under California's Labor Code Sec. 2855. That statute, sometimes known as the "De Havilland Law" because it stems from actress Oliva De Havilland's successful fight in the '40s against long-term studio deals, provides that talent cannot be bound by personal services contracts for longer than seven years.

Hidden Beach does not argue that Scott's deal violated the seven-year rule but the law carves out a requirement that certain recording artists who wish to terminate their lengthy deals must reimburse their labels in the amount the labels would have received under the terms of the contracts.

Since she made her debut in 2000, Scott's CDs have apparently generated millions in revenue. While Hidden Beach's alleged damages are unspecified in the complaint, under California law they could total several million dollars.

The lawsuit is unusually detailed in its description of the boutique label's close relationship with Scott.

The filing claims McKeever paid the singer million-dollar advances when he wasn't required to; allowed her to keep merchandising revenue; paid $450,000 to fund a concert DVD that Scott later asked not be released; bought her lavish gifts and indulged her desire to slow her recording schedule to pursue an acting career - the singer has starred in the film 'Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?' and on the HBO TV series 'No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency.'

Hidden Beach's attorney Lawrence Hinkle said that filing the lawsuit was the label's last option.

"Hidden Beach feels that Jill Scott is an incredibly talented artist, no one regrets that this lawsuit had to be filed more than Hidden Beach, but its hands were tied and it had no other option," Hinkle said in a statement.

Scott's attorney Stephen Barnes has yet to release a comment.

Hidden Beach Records is also home to Al B. Sure, Kindred the Family Soul, Tony Rich and Dr. Cornel West.

Jill Scott released a statement regarding the lawsuit.

"The lawsuit filed on February 3, 2010 by Hidden Beach Recordings against Jill Scott has no legal merit and misrepresents the history of Ms. Scott's relationship with the label. Jill Scott has the legal right to terminate her recording contract with Hidden Beach Recordings under California's 7-year rule, where she had been a recording artist for more than 10 years. During her time at Hidden Beach Recordings, she released several highly successful albums. At this time, with many creative projects in the works which include music, film and television roles and product development, Ms. Scott looks forward to continuing to further her artistry and building the Jill Scott brand in other creative environments."

Contrary to previous claims that Rihanna and Chris Brown reunited in the studio last month to record a new duet, record producer Polow Da Don recently confirmed that the couple recorded the newly surfaced track last year. "The reports are inaccurate," Polow's publicist, Laura Wright, told US magazine. "The duet was recorded long before the incident." According to People, the track, reportedly titled 'Bad Girl,' was intended to be on the soundtrack for 'Confessions of a Shopaholic,' but the song was eventually recorded by the Pussycat Dolls.

Seven years ago this month, music heavyweights R. Kelly and Jay-Z released their highly anticipated collaborative album 'The Best of Both Worlds.' Legendary Motown group The Miracles is the latest musical act to receive a Hollywood star on the world-renowned Walk of Fame. Two days prior to her death, she was admitted to Los Angeles'Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after suffering a stroke. Iconic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group Earth, Wind & Fire is set to hit the road this summer for a 30-city tour beginning June 5 in Orange Beach, AL. Gospel vocalist Kim Burrell is on deck to release her first new album in nine years titled 'No Ways Tired.' The project's title is inspired by gospel pioneer James Cleveland's classic of the same name. Despite being on hiatus since the release of his debut album 'Who Is Mike Jones?' Houston's own Mike Jones is ready to make his mark on the charts once again with the release of 'The Voice.' Jones' sophomore effort is packed with some of the industry's most talented artist including, Lil' Wayne, T-Pain, Devin the Dude, Hurricane Chris and Twista. He's had recent success with his latest single 'Next To You,' which is currently number 16 on Radio and Records Rhythmic charts. "For the past four years, I have been doing a lot of restructuring, getting this record right, making sure my business is right and more," Jones said of his hiatus. With the recent announcement that Michael Jackson will return to the stage this summer, another influential artist is also planning to make his return. Beginning March 25, Prince will be performing on the 'Tonight Show with Jay Leno' for three consecutive nights. Prince is the latest artist to promote a release through multiple late-night talk show performances. Vanessa Williams: Sad To See 'Ugly Betty' End

Emmy-nominated actress Vanessa L. Williams confessed during an interview on 'Live with Regis & Kelly' that the cast of 'Ugly Betty' is upset over the cancellation of their series.

"I got to be honest, we're devastated," admitted the 46-year-old talent. "We're sad; we're not ready for it to end. We just moved to New York. We just got on a roll."

After airing for three seasons on Thursday nights, the show suffered a tremendous ratings decline when ABC moved the show to Friday evenings. Despite being relocated in January to a new night, Wednesdays, which gave the show a ratings boost, the network has still opted to end the American telenovela at the end of this season.

"Our season this year has been the best we've ever had. But numbers and ratings (were a concern). A lot of people couldn't even find us. We switched - we were put on Thursday then taken off. Then we were on Fridays, now we're finally on Wednesday nights. But we're sad," Williams explained.

'Ugly Betty' has four more episodes to tape before they wrap for good.

Williams has already lined up her next gig.

The actor/singer will be starring in the new Broadway production, 'Sondheim on Sondheim,' a musical featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

The show, created and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner James Lapine, begins in previews at Studio 54 on March 19 and officially opens on April 22.

Darius McCrary: Former Child Star Becomes Soap Stud

Former child star Darius McCray is no stranger to learning his lines. He's been remembering scripts since making his acting debut at 10-years-old with guest turns on sitcoms like 'Amen' and 'What's Happening Now.'

But now the 33-year-old star, who America saw grow up as Eddie Winslow on the long-running sitcom 'Family Matters,' admits that the amount of material he has to learn for his new role on 'The Young and the Restless' has been quite a challenge.

"It's a lot of dialogue! I mean a lot," McCrary laughed, as we sat in the Cheesecake Factory at The Grove in Los Angeles. "But I'm so intrigued by the challenge. This is the hardest work I've ever done in my life. I really appreciate Kristoff St. John, who plays Neil Winters on the show, showing me the ropes. It's a blessing to work with such solid actors on 'The Young and the Restless.'"

The gig on 'The Young and the Restless' also reunites McCrary with a former 'Family Matters' co-star, actor Bryton McClure.

"It is really a pleasure to be re-linked with Bryton. He played Little Richie on 'Family Matters.' I'm proud of him. He's a fine young man," McCrary said.

Loyal fans of 'The Young and the Restless' questioned the producers' decision to recast the role of Malcolm Winters, made famous by actor Shemar Moore. Some even took to message boards and fan sites to gripe about McCrary joining the daytime drama.

"Daytime fans are a different kind of audience," the actor smiled. "They are so passionate about these characters and these storylines and they let you know exactly how they feel. They weren't sure what to expect from me going in, but I think they like what I'm doing now and I hope I can continue to make the fans of the show happy."

The Walnut, Calif.-bred talent, who has also worked in films like 'Kingdom Come,' 'Transformers,' and 'A Good Man is Hard to Find,' said if its up to him, he'll be staying around the city of Genoa City, Wisconsin for a long time to come.

"I plan on sticking around for as long as they want me," he declared. "You know how it is on the soaps. You may fall off a mountain or slip into a coma at any moment, but as long as they want me to be there, I plan on staying. The staff and everyone have been so inviting, man. It's a really cool environment on set and I love it."

This Zimbabwean-Canadian actor is best known for his role on 'Guiding Light' in the role of Marcus Williams. Williams is a saxophone player who loves his music and a beautiful singer Dahlia Creed, played by Sharon Leal. The actor arrived on the series in August of 1995 and picked up his first Emmy eight months later. He received another Emmy the following year. Mambo left the series three years later and appeared on various TV shows before returning to the world of soaps in 2003, when he took on the role of Dr. Jordan Kingsley on 'One Life to Live.' Between 2003 and 2005, he was a regular on 'Law & Order' franchise. Mambo is currently on Broadway in Lynn Nottage's play 'Ruined' and picked up a 2009 Pulitzer prize for drama.

Speculation continues about whether the Portland, Maine, native will come back to the role that she's played on daytime's number-one rated soap opera, 'The Young and the Restless,' for over 15 years. As Drucilla Winters, Rowell has occupied the longest-running African American female soap character in daytime television. She won 11 NAACP Image Awards. Rowell's first run as Drucilla was from 1990 to 1998. She briefly returned in 2000, and then returned on a regular basis from 2002 until early 2007. Rowell also played Dr. Amanda Bentley on the CBS series 'Diagnosis: Murder,' opposite Dick Van Dyke, and starred opposite Samuel L. Jackson in 2007's 'Home of the Brave.'

A former fashion model, the Oakland native began portraying Malcolm Winters on 'The Young and the Restless' in 1994. Once estranged from his brother, Neil (played by Kristoff St. John), Malcolm morphed into one of the most beloved characters on the long-running soap opera -- even garnering a prestigious Emmy Award for outstanding supporting actor in 2000. Since leaving the soap opera, the hunky University of Santa Clara alum has hosted 'Soul Train' and starred in movies such as 'Motives,' 'The Seat Filler' and Tyler Perry's hit 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman.' He currently plays detective Derek Morgan on the CBS prime-time drama 'Criminal Minds.'

This McKeesport, Pa., native is one of the few actors who's able to hold a daytime and nighttime job at the same time. Tunie has also appeared in a number of theater productions and produced the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical 'Spring Awakening.'

A veteran of film and TV, this New York native had a stint on daytime television nearly 40 years ago. During 1966, Tyson also had a recurring role in the daytime soap opera, 'Guiding Light,' which ended its run this month after 72 years. Her character's name was Martha Frazier. Tyson soon went on star in 1972's 'Sounder,' for which she was nominated for an Oscar for best actress. After working with Tyler Perry in 2005's 'Diary of a Mad Black Woman' and 'Madea's Family Reunion,' Perry mention her name as part of his dream cast for his film adaptation of 'For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf.'

The London actor was one-half of the first African American supercouple on 'All My Children' (along with Debbie Morgan) for his portrayal of Jesse Hubbard, from 1981 to 1988. Before he left the show, Williams won two Emmys. He returned to the soaps as Jesse's look-alike, Jacob Foster, on 'Loving' and 'The City.' In May 2007, Williams joined the cast of 'Guiding Light' in the recurring role of the villainous Griggs. After a 20-year absence, he returned to the role of Jesse on 'Children' in 2008.

Although we've seen the South Bend, Ind., actress make it big in roles in 'Independence Day,' 'Set it Off,' and 'Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2,' many may remember that she headline the first daytime black soap opera, 'Generations,' when it aired on NBC from 1989 to1991. She played Maya Reubens, opposite Debbie Morgan and Kristoff St. John. Fox later had roles on 'Days of Our Lives,' and 'The Young and the Restless.' In September 2007, she appeared in the sixth season of HBO's 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' as the mother of a family displaced by a hurricane and taken in by Larry and Cheryl. Fox last hosted her own VH1 reality series, titled 'Glam God,' in 2008.

In addition to appearing in films such as 'Eve's Bayou' and 'Love and Basketball,' the Dunn, N.C., actress is best known for her role as Dr. Angie Hubbard on the ABC soap opera 'All My Children.' Her role on the show during the '80s was as one-half of the first African American supercouple on the American soap opera (along with Darnell Williams). In 1989, Morgan, in a tie with Santa Barbara actress Nancy Lee Grahn, won the Daytime Emmy for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series. After leaving 'Children,' she had roles on NBC's 'Generations' and ABC's 'Loving' before returning in 2008 to play Angie again on 'Children.'

Sly Stone: Funk Icon Files $50 Million Lawsuit Against Former Manager

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sly Stone of the legendary funk collective, Sly & The Family Stone, filed a lawsuit on Thursday Jan. 28 for approximately $50 million against his former manager Jerry Goldstein citing fraud related charges over more than 20 years.

In the filing, prepared by Stone's attorney Robert J. Allan, the 66-year-old singer accuses Goldstein of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and conversion for diverting, converting and misappropriating his royalties and assets for over 20 years.

The suit demands a full accounting from royalty collection companies to determine actual amounts taken but they are estimated to be in the $20-30 million range and also seeks punitive damages.

"On the eve of the Grammys that celebrate the best of our artists, we see a dark side of the music business where some of these artists are being robbed of their intellectual property and the fruits of their genius by unscrupulous people who prey on their trusting nature and lack of business and legal knowledge," said Stone's attorney Allan, of Allan Law Group.

Stone and his attorney claim that Goldstein "used the proceeds of his scheme to live a lavish lifestyle and purchase luxurious properties worth over $80 million through trusts and offshore corporations."

The singer has been joined in his suit by radio mogul Ken Roberts, a former manager, who is pursuing claims against Goldstein for fraud and identity theft.

Roberts' claim accuses Goldstein of stealing the name and identity of a company Roberts incorporated in 1975 when he managed Sly Stone so that Goldstein could obtain Stone's royalties from Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI).

BMI, a performing rights organization, has been cooperating with Stone's counsel and has refused to pay any further royalties for his musical compositions to Goldstein or his collaborators.

Defendants Warner Chappell and Sony Music have refused to pay any royalties pending a resolution of Stone's claims.

Stone and Roberts' lawsuit seeks compensatory damages, declaratory relief, a royalty accounting, appointment of a receiver and a constructive trust over the properties Goldstein and his collaborators purchased. The lawsuit also requests punitive damages against Goldstein and his collaborators for "deceitful, fraudulent, malicious, and oppressive acts," which were undertaken with intent to cause harm to Stone and Roberts.

Goldstein has yet to comment on the suit.

JLS: UK Boy Band To Make US Debut

British boy band JLS are gearing up for their American debut.

The quartet, who were runners-up on the fifth season of Simon Cowell's UK music competition series 'X Factor,' have inked a deal with Jive Records to release their debut CD in the United States.

The group, made up of members Aston, "JB," Marvin and Oritse, sold more than one million copies of their self-titled debut since it was released in the UK on Nov. 9, 2009.

One of their singles, 'Everybody in Love,' is already getting some airplay in the U.S.

JLS, who lost on 'X Factor' to Alexandra Burke, has won two MOBO Awards and has been nominated for three Brit Awards since their debut.

No word on a projected release date for JLS in the U.S.

Road Warrior: Rapper Nelly Talks Custom Car, Talk Show Venture & Kelly Rowland Sequel

Rap superstar Nelly (whose real name is Cornell Haynes, Jr.) was smiling like a kid in a candy store when Ford introduced the world to the Grammy winner's 5.0 Mustang customized by Dub magazine during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The tricked-out whip, which boasts a glossy black exterior, flat-black racing stripes and rides on Pirellis wheels, was the car Nelly idolized as a teenager and now he's living a dream by having one of his own.

"Growing up in high school the 5.0 Mustang was a dream car for me. Even though I never achieved that car. By the time I got a chance where I could afford that car, they stopped making it on me," the St. Louis-bred music star explained, as we sat above the Ford booth in a private suite in Detroit's Cobo Center.

The venture with Nelly and Ford happened when the rapper met Jim Farley, Ford's marketing vice president, who was impressed with the music star's passion for Mustangs.

"It's great when you can throw out ideas and have big shots that will listen," laughed Nelly, before adding: "But the 5.0 Mustang is the epitome of where muscles cars started, where they should go and where they should end!"

The 35-year-old 'Hot in Herre' star confessed that he's racked up his fair share of traffic tickets in the past, though he expects to be adding to them in his new Mustang and has already put his team on notice.

"I've gotten quite a few tickets," he smiled. "But thanks for great lawyers!"

In addition to discussing his Mustang, Nelly updated BV Buzz on the latest happenings with his music career, his acting and a TV project he has in the works.

Would you like to do a mass-produced vehicle with Ford similar to what they did with Funkmaster Flex and the Ford Flex?

Umm, if it was done right. That's my thing. I don't want to half-ass it. I don't want to put my name on it and hope that it sells. Now we're talking about something that I am really, really into. This is the automotive industry and car guys respect car guys. Cars guys will know when you're faking. So if it can be done right, yeah, I'd love to see what could happen.

You've had several successful business ventures, from your own Apple Bottom apparel collection to endorsement deals the Sean Jean underwear line and Reebok. How have you been able to thrive in the corporate realm?

I think it's kind of like, from the beginning, you have to know where you want your career to go instead of going where the career takes you. You have to already have that mentality when you get into the game. If I have this type of success, this is where I want to go. If I have this type of success, then this is where I want to go. This is what I want to manifest this into. You see what I'm saying? So when you get that opportunity, you strike. What I try to do, I just try to do things that relate to what I'm doing so it makes sense. It doesn't look like a stretch or like I'm just out there for a check.

You have a new CD coming out this summer. I hear there's a follow-up to your mega-hit 'Dilemma' with Kelly Rowland.

'DL2!' This is one thing, we know we can't in no way shape of form can we outdo part one. There's no way. You're in a lose situation if you go in trying to do that. What the new song is doing is a continuation of the story. It's produced by my man Jim Jonsin and my man Rico Love. We were in the studio in Miami and I called K and she was in the bed and just shot down to the studio.

Any other standout collaborations on the CD?

I got a collaboration with Taraji Henson that was produced by Jermaine Dupri. It's crazy.

Why don't you think your 2008 CD, 'Brass Knuckles' performed as well has your previous ones had?

I think the disconnect was that we had great success at crossover and pop radio, but I think when urban radio heard the names, they didn't give the record a chance. Once they heard it was Fergie, they just automatically threw it in the pop category and didn't give it a chance instead of letting the people decide. I don't care where I go, when I perform that song it rocks! When I'm overseas it rocks! Its just one of those things. But I'm not upset with this game. I understand the rules and sometimes the rules don't go in your favor. You can do everything possible to prepare to win, but that don't mean you're going to win.

I understand you have a TV project in the works. Tell me about that.

Not sure if you're familiar with the Ocean's 7 Crew. It's me, Jermaine Dupri, Trey Songz, Johnta Austin, Brian Michael Cox and Tyrone "International" Davis. We're working on kind of like the male version of 'The View.' We're working on that. You ever seen that movie called 'The Ugly Truth?' You know how the guy had his show; well we're working on that.

You made your film debut in 'The Longest Yard' and have appeared on 'CSI: NY.' Why don't you act more Nelly?

I'm starting to do more now, but I wanted to do stuff that made sense to me. I had a lot of offers and a lot of things that probably could've been cool, but I turned it down because I felt I wasn't ready yet. I never want to disrespect the culture and the thing that is acting, thinking just because I'm Nelly I'm going to transition and be good at it. I know it takes work. I know it takes a lot of hours. I know it takes a lot of digging deep a lot of times within yourself and making it come up.

Crossing Over: Letoya Luckett Makes Feature Film Debut

R&B star Letoya Luckett makes her feature film debut in the new movie 'Preacher's Kid,' which opens in theaters on Jan. 29.

"It was my first feature film and I didn't know what to expect," Luckett told BV Buzz. "I got cast for the role four days before we actually started taping and I had actually studied for another character. I had gotten the role of 'Desiree' who is not friendly at all and four days later I get cast for the sweetest thing in the movie. She's a 21 year old girl named 'Angie' who is the Preacher's daughter."

The former Destiny's Child singer said she had a great time working on the film that also stars Clifton Powell ('Ray'), Tammy Townsend ('Sherri'), R&B singer Tank, Essence Atkins ('Half & Half'), Sharif Atkins ('E.R.') and gospel singer Kieara Sheard.

"It was an amazing experience and I worked with some amazing people; Troy Rowland who is my acting coach; Stan Foster who is the director and all of my co-stars were so cool," she added.

Though 'Preacher's Kid' was a small budget film, Luckett will also appear in Ashton Kutcher's big budget feature 'Five Killers,' which is slated to bow later this year.

"Everybody was very cool and professional and I learned a lot. I would love to experience something like that again," she said of that film.

On the music front, the 28-year-old singer is still enjoying the current success of her hit single 'Regret,' which features Ludacris. The song was produced by her 'Preacher's Kid' co-star Tank.

Tyrese Takes On Teddy Pendergrass: Bio-Film In The Works

Tyrese Gibson is readying his first bio-film.

The singer/actor will play the late R&B singer Teddy Pendergrass in an upcoming movie about the soul star's life.

The feature was in the works before the 59-year-old quadriplegic died on Jan. 13 at Philadelphia's Bryn Mawr Hospital.

"I actually had started going to Philly a week at a time. I was doing research for the life story of Teddy," Gibson shared.

With the blessing of Joan Pendergrass, the widow of the late R&B singer, Gibson said he's moving forward with the project.

"This is the role of a lifetime for me! It's still in motion," he explained. "It'll be my first time singing in a film."

Gibson sang at a funeral service for Pendergrass on Jan. 23, as well as served as a pallbearer during the ceremony.

"That was like my step-pops," the 31-year-old entertainer said about Pendergrass.

No studio is attached to the film project as of yet.

Gibson currently stars in the film 'Legion,' which is in theaters now.

Corey Clark: 'American Idol' Star Shoots Reality Show & Says Series Can't Survive Without Simon Cowell

Corey Clark is best known as the season two 'American Idol' star who made headlines in 2005 after confessing to a romantic tryst with 'Idol' judge Paula Abdul, a relationship the 47-year-old singer/choreographer has continued to deny.

After being branded 'Idol's' bad boy, Clark released a self-titled CD that same year on Bungalo Records that garnered no attention.

Feeling as though he had been blacklisted for taking a stand against 'American Idol,' Clark returned to a normal life in Nashville where he worked a regular job and started a family.

"That 'Idol' machine is a major one and once he went up against it, he never had a fair shot at success," his rep, Lynn Allen Jeter told BV Buzz.

Now the 29-year-old singer is at it again, but this time with Authentic Entertainment, the Hollywood production company behind shows like 'Ace of Cakes,' ' Toddlers & Tiaras' and 'Flipping Out!'

Authentic Entertainment recently shot a pilot for Clark called 'Underdawg' that shows him attempting to kick-start his music career, while raising his two sons and a daughter with his wife, Monica.

BV Buzz spoke to Clark via telephone from his home in Nashville where we he discussed the TV pilot, his music ambitions and whether he thought 'American Idol' could survive without Abdul and Simon Cowell, who is reportedly leaving the franchise to launch the US version of his British hit series 'X-Factor' here next year.

I hear the pilot for 'Underdawg' is really good. What exactly is the show about?

The show will encompass the creative process of creating a record and the business process of getting a record out to the masses. A lot of fans think you just kind of wake up one day and you're a star. They don't get to see the behind the scenes aspects that go into making a record successful. There are a lot of hands you're shaking and a lot of rehearsing that goes into it. My show will be an in-depth real look at what it takes to become successful or the mistakes that you make to become a failure. But for my second album, I've been in the studio doing a lot of work over the last couple of years. We're going to do a lot of cross-pollination between the record and the TV show.

You have a wife and three kids now. Will they be apart of the show?

The other part of the story is more of a family one. It will showcase my personal life with my wife Monica and our children. It will chronicle the affect my career has on my wife and my children. It will show people who the real Corey Clark is, versus what the tabloid magazines and internet bloggers have said about me. This is an inside look into who I really am, what I'm really doing and how I'm trying to make this music thing work.

Why do you think your first CD didn't work?

A lot of folks industry-wide tried to write me off after my first record because of the scandal that ensued with me and 'American Idol' and Paula Abdul. A lot of people's opinion about me changed. Whereas upfront they were saying I'm a talented guy and charming, then they started badmouthing me. The show will show that not only am I talented, I'm a nice down-to-earth person and a lot of stuff that the media has put out there about me was slander just because I had an inappropriate relationship with one of the judges when I was on that show.

Do you feel you catch a bad rap or have you made it easy for people to dog you?

I think that people have ignored the talent because of some of that press. I won't say I've caught a bad rap, because I've made my bed, so I've got to lay in it. But when it all boils down, I've been called a liar.

You were arrested a few times and have had your share of mugshots on TMZ.

There have been some incidents where I wasn't following the rules 100 percent, but I was working to keep my family together. That's what my wife wanted and that's what I wanted. It's not up to a judge and it's not up to my wife's step-father, who is a police officer - it's up to us! Yeah, I caught a few charges through that instance. Would I re-do anything? Possibly! But am I regretful that the things that have occurred did occur? Not really. Because if I would have left that situation completely alone we wouldn't have the beautiful children we have today. I'm happy we decided to stay together and our family is flourishing right now.

What are you thoughts on Paula Abdul leaving and Ellen DeGeneres replacing her?

I think Ellen DeGeneres is a very funny lady. I think she'll have an eye for talent. A lot of luck to her. As far as her replacing Paula, I think Paula was an integral part of 'American Idol.' She bought a lot to the show, good and bad, but she was one of the original people who were there. At the end of the day, I think its going to change the show a great deal. It's already changed a lot. Can't say if it's going to hurt them or not. It seems like the peek for 'American Idol' is going down. Simon is now talking about leaving and Paula is gone, taking away those key elements that made 'American Idol' popular in the first place. It's changing the formula that made it such a hit in the first place.

You mentioned Simon. Do you think 'American Idol' can survive without him?

'Idol' won't survive without Simon! Simon is really the key to 'Idol's' success.

Do you ever wonder if what allegedly happened with you and Paula ever came up during her contract negotiations with 'American Idol?'

Some people have asked me why do I think they wouldn't pay her what she wanted. I can't contribute it to what happened to her and I in our past, but I can definitely say that it was at least brought up in the conversation while they were talking about renewing her contract. There wouldn't be any other reason not to offer a woman of her stature who is such an integral part of the show the more money.

Miss Independent: Eddie Murphy's Ex-Wife Nicole Launches Jewelry Line

Eddie Murphy's ex-wife Nicole Murphy has launched a jewelry line.

The former model, who is engaged to retired NFL star Michael Strahan, has had launch events recently in both New York City and Los Angeles to unveil the endeavor.

The line, called Friendship, Love & Peace, is available online now and should at retail in high-end department stores and designer boutiques later this year.

"I've been the wife, the mother and the girlfriend, but now I'm ready to be the businesswoman," the statuesque beauty told a friend of BV Buzz.

Murphy has five children from her previous marriage to Eddie and will have four step-children once she weds Strahan later this year.

This 30-year-old New York Times best-selling author made a name for herself in the music industry as a music video model. After intimate relations with some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Jay-Z, Ja Rule and Method Man, Steffans became known as "Superhead." Virginia native Al Reynolds is mostly known as the ex-husband of former plus-size talk show personality Star Jones. The former investment banker is currently finishing up his doctorate in organizational leadership and teaching at Florida Memorial University.

Praise Party: Flex Alexander & Vivica A. Fox Host Gospel Show

All-State's 'Gospel SuperFest' begins airing in national syndication starting this week.

The show taped its tenth season earlier this month at The Cintas Center at Xavier University in Cincinnati and featured an all-star lineup of gospel luminaries and R&B superstars.

Actors Vivica A. Fox and Flex Alexander hosted the show.

"It was my fourth year hosting and I enjoyed it," Alexander told BV Buzz. "It gets better and better each time. The artists on there were amazing and there are always several of my favorites on there."

Among the standouts that really moved the former 'One on One' star was James Fortune & Fiya.

As a onetime drug dealer who narrowly escaped death three times, overcame adversity by giving his life to Christ and becoming a successful dancer and actor; Alexander said he can really relate to the message in Fortune's hit song, 'I'll Trust You.'

"When they sang it I just lost it. That song, I just relate to that song. After going through what I've gone through and overcoming it, I can really relate to it," he shared.

In addition Fortune, 'Gospel SuperFest' also featured performances by Vickie Winans, Hezekiah Walker, Kierra Sheard, Ricky Dillard, Shirley Murdock, DeWayne Woods, Karen Clark-Sheard, RiZen, Richard Smallwood & Vision, Regina Bell, Keith "Wonderboy" Johnson, Dorinda Clark-Cole, God's Image, Karima Kibble, J. Moss, 21:03, JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise, Mary Wynn, Jason Nelson, The Whispers, Melvin Williams and others.

In addition to the musical performances onstage, Procter & Gamble, who hosted BV Buzz for the taping, set up a bevy of interactive events in the hallway for attendees to participate in.

Lifestyle maven B. Smith was on hand to host Bounty's Soul Food Cook-Off Challenge, which featured recipes submitted by Ricky Dillard, Hezekiah Walker and Professor Wilbur Belton.

Guests could sample the dishes prepared according to each gospel artist's recipe and then vote on their favorite. Professor Wilbur Belton & Ladwec Mass Choir won the challenge and was the recipient of the $1,500 prize.

Smith, who has a cookbook out called 'B. Smith Cooks Southern-Style,' said Bounty's Soul Food Cook-Off added a great backdrop to the night.

"Hosting the Bounty Soul Food Cook-Off at Gospel SuperFest turned out to be a great evening for everyone to celebrate music while tasting some delicious family friendly choir recipes," she said.

Attendees also got to participate in the Gain's Karaoke Challenge.

For those who would sing one of their favorite gospel tunes at the Gain karaoke booth, the P&G brand would make a $100 contribution to the charity of their choice. Many chose their local churches!

Donnie Simpson: Former BET Host Leaves Radio Gig

Former BET personality Donnie Simpson is leaving his long-running morning radio show, 'Donnie Simpson Show' in Washington, DC.

The green-eyed talent, best known for hosting BET's 'Video Soul' for 14 years, had been helming his morning radio program on WPGC-FM in the nation's capital since 1993.

Though the show was never syndicated, Simpson was the first urban-format radio personality to have an annual salary over $1 million without his morning show being national.

The 56-year-old talent was expected to retire last year when his contract expired, but much to the chagrin of station management - who were preparing another BET personality Big Tigger to take over the slot - Simpson announced at a company gathering that he intended to continue his morning show for several more years.

The 32-year radio veteran, who hosted the 'Donnie Simpson Show' on WPGC for 17 years, was rumored to have taken a substantial pay cut to continue the show.

Last June, Simpson's longtime sidekick, comedian Chris Paul, left the show unexpectedly to join the 'Tom Joyner Morning Show' as a contributor.

Paul was the second person to defect Simpson's show for Joyner's nationally syndicated show. In 2007, comic Huggy Lowdown, the most recognizable featured player on Simpson's show, bolted for the 'Tom Joyner Morning Show.'

Regardless, less than a year after inking a new contract with CBS Radio, the BET Walk of Fame inductee is ending his run at WPGC this Friday after months of allegedly bickering with station management.

His actual contract does not expire until March 2011 and Simpson will not be allowed to work at another station for the next 13 1/2 months.

He reportedly asked the station not to give him a big send off.

Reps for WPGC and CBS Radio refuse to comment on the matter.

Back for More: Shirley Murdock Readying R&B Return

Music veteran Shirley Murdock is headed back into the studio to record her first R&B CD in almost 20 years BV Buzz has learned.

The vocalist, best known for hits like 'As We Lay,' 'Husband' and 'Go On Without You,' has spent two decades both recording gospel CDs and traveling in touring plays.

Murdock emphasized that her decision to return to the R&B isn't a "flip-flop" between gospel music and the R&B genre.

"I've got something to say again," Murdock explained to me. "It's still going to have substance and be faith-filled. So I'm not changing who I am, but its just time to encourage a different audience."

R&B star Kelly Price and music producer Shep Crawford (Tamia/Whitney Houston) will oversee songwriting and production on the CD, which they plan to begin recording in Feb.

Murdock's last gospel CD 'SoulFood' was released on Tyscot Records in 2007.

The Stellar Award-nominated CD featured the single 'I Love Me Better Than That,' a contemporary record that crossed over to Urban Adult Contemporary radio formats and had R&B fans yearning for new music from Murdock.

Last year, Murdock was also featured on the duet 'Soldier' on Teena Marie's 'Congo Square' CD.

The Toledo, Ohio native, who is favorite of singer's like Jennifer Hudson, Lil Mo and Fantasia, released her last R&B CD, 'Let There Be Love!' in 1991.
