The 60-year-old song stylist was recently in Minneapolis, Minn., to perform at the Dakota Jazz Club, and Minneapolis Star Tribune columnist C.J. asked Austin had she ever made love to her own songs.
"Oh, my, ooooh, that sounds horrible! That sounds like a horrible idea," the singer replied.
With hits like 'Baby Come to Me,' 'Say You Love Me' and 'The Heat of Heat,' Austin does acknowledge that she knows others do have sex
to her music."I know, and unfortunately, they all tell me about it, too," she offered.
Austin, the goddaughter of music icon Quincy Jones and the late Dinah Washington, is releasing a new CD called 'Sound Advice' (Shanachie Entertainment) on May 17.
The disc is an inspirational compilation that features new songs written by Austin, in addition to her renditions of classic tunes like Michael Jackson's 'Give It Up,' Bill Withers' 'Lean on Me,' Des'ree's 'You Gotta Be' and Paul Anka's 'My Way.'

I wrote a song about eating a pork sandwich with gatorade.
I cannot to this day eat a pork sandwich with gatorade while listening to that song.
Way to bring everything iconic about this woman into the gutter.

This is what's wrong with today's version of today's trash which sadly passes for journalism.
Asking someone, especially a singing legend like Patti Austin, does she have sex to her own music....That's disgusting.
Besides the fact of her being a legend, the mere fact that she is a mature older women, a 60 year African American woman who has earned a stellar reputation and deserve the utmost respect of being an elder statesman in the music business and a late middle age women soon to approaching senior citizenship should have never been asked that question in the first place.
The person asking the question (I dare call that person a journallist) should have realized first who he was talking to, her status in life as a older women and not pose a question intended for a 20 year old who would love to have that question asked of them in order to get a week's worth of additional publicity across the internet.
Patti Austin is not running that race and does not need that bubble gum type press. Been there, done that.
To me, this is no different than asking your mother or grandmother the same exact question.
Don't young people have any home traning, manners, scruples or respect fo older people.
And stop grouping all these people together thinking that they all want the same things. Beyonce or Rhianna is no where near Aretha Franklin, Patti Austin or Patti Labelle and those two haven't even learned how to actually sing yet.
And for the journalist here who posted this story abd decided that with everything that was probably asked and stated in that interview and with all her decades of musical accomplishments and knowledge, this od all things, is what get screened, approved and printed.
Seriously? Think before you act!

well, I guess if thats what the interview summed up to, so be it. I presume many people would want to know about that.
I first heard this lovely voice on an airplane. the magazine that comes in the seat pouch had alisting of the types of music you could listen to while flying, FREE! When I got home I asked someone who is Patti Austin? lol This was the 80's.
I think you look great and Im happy to read that you are still singing. I saw you last at Cheryl L. R. event in Los Angeles.
Blessings to you Patti!

All of you are complaining that the headline and story are tacky. Ms. Austin couldn't have minded the question, since she answered it. You took the time to read at least the headline; possibly the whole article, which was short; and post and confirm your response.
Stop the double standard. If you're offended by stories like these, don't post comments, which are the only way the site can gauge interest in its stories. That will send a stronger message to the writers than your wanting to have your cake and eating it, too.

jackx, so why did you post a response and by doing so you contributed to the as you say, the "double standard".
And by doing so you assisted in the site gauging interest in its stories and according to your reasoning (in which you did not realize what you were saying), they will continue to publish crap like this.
It's apparent that in your moment of "teaching", you were being taught and you did not realize exactly what you just did.
You should have just read the article and not post anything.
Lesson learned.

Just because she was gracious enough to answer the questions doesn't mean it should be included in the article. I hope you are not one of BV writers though I suspect "tacky is as tacky does".
I have loved Patti Austin's music for 30 years. That is why I read the article not because of BV's tasteless writer.

Stop the double standard. If you're offended by stories like these, don't post comments, which is arguably the most effective way for the site to gauge interest in its stories. That will send a stronger message to the writers than your wanting to have your cake and eating it, too.
