Sources tell BlackVoices.com exclusively that the one-time host of 'Video Soul' has struck a deal with Washington, DC, station WHUR to host a nighttime slow-jam show beginning in mid-April.
"He's been itching to be back on radio since his departure from his morning show on WPGC last year," said a source. "This is a win-win for him and the station."
Simpson hosted the 'Donnie Simpson Morning Show' on WPGC in Washington, DC, for 18 years. His relationship with the station soured in January of 2010 and the 57-year-old host left the station.
(Read: 'Donnie
Simpson: Former BET Host Leaves Radio Gig')The green-eyed talent's noncomplete clause with WPGC expired last month, which allows Simpson to resume working in the nation's capital again.
In addition to hosting the local 'Quiet Storm' format at WHUR, Simpson has also been meeting with radio syndicators about taking the show national and competing against Keith Sweat's 'The Sweat Hotel' (Premiere Radio Networks) and 'Art Laboe Connection' (Black Card Radio).
At press time, a comment from WHUR was unavailable.

Donnie Simpson is an old school VJ from the 90's, who used to host Video Soul. Most black people over the age of 30 like myself remember that. Which makes me wonder are you white?

I earned a degree in communications because I loved what he did on Video Soul. 106 & Park has nothing on that show. He brought class and wisdom to the show and that is what TELEVISION is missing. I wish he'd make a deal with BET to come back to television for us more mature folks, airing videos that you don't get to see on t.v. every twenty minutes. I want a classy video show for adults. Centric...BET...helloooooooooo! Congrats Donnie! Well deserve and still looking good!
