"It can be very hostile in England – not just to me, to everybody. England's like a sour old auntie. You go and stay with her although she criticizes you all the time and doesn't treat you right, even when you're doing your best. But you keep on loving her, in a certain way. And then you die. Those b@#$%es always outlive you!"
– Singer Sade responds to UK critics who chastise her singing abilities in a cover story for the British lifestyle magazine Pride.
After more than a decade-long hiatus, Sade's latest CD 'Soldier of Love' has already sold more than one million copies since it was released on Feb. 8.

Sorry Sade, but this new album SUCKS!!! all these years we've waited for you to top your hit album "Love Deluxe" but, I guess lightning never strikes the same place twice!! However, I think you have a great singing voice but, It didn't translate well on this new album!

I have to agree with humvee here. I love Sade but this album is substandard for her. It doesn't totally suck but after all the waiting, I was expecting something magical or at least equal to what she's already done. I don't like the single. Sounds uninspired. Some of the other songs on the cd are much better but overall a bit of a step back for her compounded by the fact that it took 10 years.
As to whether she can sing or not, I'll just say Sade's voice is perfect for the smoky, smooth jazz/pop she does. She found her niche and she knows how work it. I know all the Sade super-fans will flame me for saying it but I wouldn't put her up against any real divas. We love Sade for the whole package (image, music, voice, cool vibe/mood), that she brings more than just her singing alone.

Sade is unique that's why all those black chicks wanted to emulate her style back in the day.
Anita Baker is not unique. She mumbles thru her songs and Toni Braxton is no different.
