It's no wonder A&M Records is spending a truck load of money promoting Janet Jackson's 'Number Ones,' her two-CD set of greatest hits music that was released on Nov. 17.
According to the New York Daily News, the youngest of the Jackson siblings has inked a new recording contract with A&M Records, which is the very label where she began her music career in 1982.
"A&M wants this CD to remind people how great Janet is," a source told the daily paper. "They're hoping it'll whet the public's appetite for Janet and pave the way for her new music."
Jackson had two of her biggest selling releases on A&M Records. Her 1986 CD 'Control' sold more than five million units in the US and her 1989 release 'Rhythm Nation 1814' moved a staggering 8.5 million copies.
Apparently A&M/Interscope executive Jimmy Iovine has tapped Rodney Jerkins (Beyonce/Michael Jackson) to oversee the album, which has a projected second quarter 2010 release date planned.
After her 'Rock Witchu Tour' last year, it was expected that Jackson would sign a recording contract with Live Nation, the mega-touring company that promoted her tour and has a record company division where Jay-Z, Madonna and U2 are now signed as artists.

Contrary to previous claims that Rihanna and Chris Brown reunited in the studio last month to record a new duet, record producer Polow Da Don recently confirmed that the couple recorded the newly surfaced track last year. "The reports are inaccurate," Polow's publicist, Laura Wright, told US magazine. "The duet was recorded long before the incident." According to People, the track, reportedly titled 'Bad Girl,' was intended to be on the soundtrack for 'Confessions of a Shopaholic,' but the song was eventually recorded by the Pussycat Dolls.

"It was first thought of by me. I was in Miami at the time, and I gave Kanye a call and said, 'The best thing would be for me and you to do an album.'... Let's take the best of both worlds and put it on a CD and try to make something we can sell to the consumers. He says he's with it. We're gonna try to make it happen." For now, you can catch Kanye on Dream's potential third single 'Walking on the Moon,' which is featured on his newly released album 'Love vs. Money.'

Good to hear!
Though I wouldn't say they're spending a "truckload" on this project. It looks like it was some mutual lovefest between ABC and Janet. They get ratings, she gets promo. I'm not sure if Janet's camp spent a penny.
But who knows! Thanks for the good news. I can't wait for the new project next Spring.

I am ALWAYS looking forward to anything Janet. She's been doing her thing since back in the day when there weren't to many of us on TV. What an amazing career and talent.
Music is awful just awful right now. So I want her to bring it and show these overpaid over hyped acts who helped build the house they play in!

I had a feeling Jan signed a new deal w/ A&M since they're promoting the "Number Ones" CD so heavily. I'm glad she's back w/ them. Ms. Jackson will now and get back to her roots and show these young chicks making "music" today (or whatever they call it) why she's the Undisputed Queen of Pop/R&B/ and Dance.

Janet Jackson has recently expressed an idea of a "Jackson Girls" band with her and Latoya, Etal. But, instead of that- how about just everyone getting up on the stage and forming a soul combo- Sly and the Family stone kind of idea.. Jermaine and Tito and Jackie together again with the girls, too?

When is she going to have a baby?

Yes, I confirm Janet Jackson was pregnant in 1984. She and i are the same age and i remember seeing a Jet Magazine showing her about 5 to 6 months pregnant with James baby. I tried to locate the Jet Magazine article but the magazines were sold out. I have been saying this for the last 25 years. They just have the childs age wrong but Janet did have a baby. I think it's sad that she denied her child for her career. surely they had enough money to cover this type of news. Out of sight out of mind. How could she live with her self knowing the truth.
