"When I saw Ms. Oprah Winfrey on 'People are Talking' [Winfrey's daily talk show in Baltimore from 1978 to 1983] and we took a school trip there when I was in broadcasting school, I said, 'she looks like me: she's fat, she's black, she's got big feet. She's doing it? Okay I believe I want to do that, too!"
– Comedienne Mo'Nique talks about how talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey inspired her to want to work in the entertainment in a cover story for the new issue of Uptown magazine.
Ironically, the star of Lee Daniels' critically acclaimed new film 'Precious' is catching flack from the Hollywood community for refusing to promote the film that is expected to land her an Oscar nomination because the film studio Lions Gate won't pay her to promote the film. Winfrey and media mogul Tyler Perry are producers on the film.

If Mo'nique is so inspired by Oprah, why all the drama with appearing for the film "Precious?" What's up with that?

I liked Monique as a comedian when she 1st started and that's what I still like her as, but now she is just an annoying, big, horse talking loud mouth. And what is up with her show, its like a constant group of deep voice big man bitches; her, kim whitley, adelle, latifah etc. I just hate to hear her talk out of breath, begging for status and for people to like her. I hate to see her struggle like this so I turn the channel when it comes on. But in retrospect, I guess she just has to be who she is, she can always return to being a lady after her show.

Mo'nique is "VERY LOUD" and quite "GHETTO". They have an island saying "Never See Come See" which means ain't accustom. She screams entirely to much during her show, it's not necessary, she needs to tone that down.
So far she's had great guest on her show they have more class then she does.
Mo'nique appears to be a person that has to been seen...all the attention must be directed to her.
You take a chance inviting her to an upscale event...you hear her mouth before you see her!
With her "BIG MOUTH" you don't need anybody else!

I had to let that show go. I had to constantly adjust the volume on my TV from all that yellin, screamin, and hollerin. If she would just calm down, she wouldn't be out of breath and sweatin so much. Sorry, but the Mo'Nique show is not worth all my effort. Besides I can use the sleep.
Good Night!

personally i like monique. She is no Oprah nor will she ever be, but each indiviual has there own class and style. Monique just happens to be guetto fabulous. I say just let her be. If every entertainer was like Oprah what would be the difference on the world indiviual.
Thanks

For all of you that said HELL NO you should think of what you are saying to black kids and young black adults. I beleave that if you try you can accomplish anything. If I thought like that instead of working for one of the largest air craft companies in the world I would still be standing on corners on the streets of St. Louis. Never say never.
