Black Entertainment Television doesn't plan to announce it until next week, but BV Buzz has learned exclusively Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will host the 2009 BET Awards.
The annual award show will broadcast live for its ninth year from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on a new day, Sunday June 28, 2009.
This will mark the first time that 'The Soloist' star will host the BET Awards, which has been hosted by Mo'Nique, Steve Harvey, Cedric The Entertainer, Damon Wayans, D.L. Hughley and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith in the past.
Fresh off an appearance on 'American Idol' as a guest coach, Foxx's latest single 'Blame It,' from his junior CD 'Intuition,' has spent more than 12 weeks at number one on the Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
In addition to news that Foxx will host, BET plans to salute R&B veterans The O'Jays during the telecast as well.
During the network's Upfront Presentation in New York City recently, BET also announced that R&B singer Maxwell is scheduled to perform during this year's award show as well.
A rep for BET would not confirm the report.
"We do not have a host confirmed for the show. We do not have contracts signed," offered Marcy Polanco.

I think that what BET and all of the various entertainers are doing in honor and respect for Michael Jackson will go down in history. It's a beautiful thing and should be noted as such.
What would make it even more phenomenal would be for every entertainer to dedicate their awards to the Jackson family.
It would be a very selfless act, but I think my people can make it happen. Store the awards in some sort of MJ museum.
