TV personality Star Jones turned 47 yesterday.
The former co-host of ABC's 'The View' commemorated the day by launching a new blog called Positively Star.
Jones wrote on the blog on her birthday about how a medical diagnosis when she was 19 years old gave her just nine months to live.
"Actually, I wasn't supposed to see 47. Heck, I wasn't supposed to see 20," Jones wrote. "At 19, I was in my last year of college, and I was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor in my chest. The tumor was growing daily, and it had wrapped itself around my esophagus, lay between my lungs and under my heart. I was given nine months to live. I'd always wanted to be a lawyer so something in me said fight, and I did. I found a doctor who didn't think the tumor was inoperable, and he (after eight hours of surgery) removed it and got it all out. I was back in class seven days later. Eight weeks of radiation, five days a week followed. I graduated from college on time, went on to law school and began living my dreams. My thyroid was destroyed in the process, which caused me to gain weight over the years...but other than a scar down the center of my chest; you'd never know I got a death sentence over 25 years ago. How good is God!"
Positively Star featu
res a simple design and describes the former Court TV/TruTV talk show host as "an American lawyer chick who is free, black and grown."
Don't expect the former Mrs. Al Reynolds to be blogging about celebrity gossip and Hollywood rumors – after being a tabloid mainstay for years, she won't take that approach.
But Jones will likely voice her opinion on hot topics, current events and things that inspire and motivate her, because the blog is called Positively Star!
Yesterday, the Badin, North Carolina-bred star declared she's "healthier and happier than I've ever been and I have God to thank for it."
Jones will talk about her health and losing weight in the public eye alongside Valerie Bertinelli on an upcoming episode of 'Oprah.'

Star -- Alleged Surgery?
Former television personality and best-selling author Star Jones finally opened up about her notoriously-hidden gastric bypass surgery in an Nov. 2008 edition of Essence magazine. "If I had just been honest, there would not have been a backlash," she said, noting that her "big mistake was not telling the audience" of the top-rated ABC talk-show 'The View,' which she was a co-host of for 10 years. The 47-year-old tabloid mainstay lost more than a whopping 150 pounds. "It was dangerous to me," she said about her former obesity in another interview. "I was killing myself."

Stop hating on Star Jones, she is a beautiful Black Sister, she has money and can do anything she wants. People hate her because she says what she wants,Barbara Waltons say what she wants and makes millions. Everybody in hollywood has cosmetic surgery even 50 cent and Kanye West.
If I just had a pocket full of the money that the thousands of others in Entertainment use towards cosmetic surgery, I would be able to pay on all my bills and be on time every month, my son will be the happiest kid in the world. If you are blessed with take full advantage of it and enjoy life. Dog! I have a few old age wrinkles in my face. If I had the money ,why not?.

You are so right about Barbara Walters. Everyone is hating Star yet, did anyone ever see Barbara Walters talk about her nips and tucks that are all over her face? She's so nipped and tucked she can barely talk. And who knows how many nips and tucks are under her clothes? Who's business is it if Star didn't want to be a poster child for obesity? She has that right. How personal is surgery, no matter what kind it is? Why does Blacks in the lime light have to tell every aspect of their business and other cultures don't, especially whites? I never hear anyone going after Iman. Why, maybe because her husband is white? I was the teenager tha sat in my living room watching our large Blace & White TV and watched them talk about how she came from the back woods of Africa, was poor and was given her first perm. Now she says, that never happened. She's a liar and they gave her this sad story to sensationalize her beginnings. Deal with it Iman, you're a liar and why won't they show the footage of when you were first introduced to the public, walking down the streets of NY I believe it was, with your head mostly above the crowd because you were so tall and we were in awe. Now all of a sudden, you've always had. Hollywood is full of lies and its sad to see our young people pulled into it especially with all the designer hype. God won't continue to BLESS AMERICA with all the lies and sin. I always pray especially for Hollywood that is the true sin city of this world.

Nothing to do with this topic but....if we had a section called White Voices we'd be called racists but Black Voices and it seems to be okay with no racism involved. Yeah right!

The rest of the Internet is 'White Voices', and why are you perusing this one, other than to stir up trouble?

This is so true. We can't have a Miss White America contest, nor can we have a United White College Fund drive, and I'm tired of the buzz word Diversity, we pass up qualified applicants to give jobs to somebody less qualified, that is racial discrimination. The jobs should go to the most qualified no matter if they are white, black, hispanic or of any other ethnic background.

I have to agree with you!!! Great point made I might add. I'm always amazed when A.A.'s make comments such as... There's not many black people on TV. Sherri from the View said something similar a week or so ago and I thought "What, what in the hell is she talking about"?? Has she NOT NOTICED how many A.A. actors there really are and how many are truly working? There's more A.A.'s working in TV and in film then there Hispanics or Asians for that matter but does she say anything about that? HELL NO. IMO, that's racism in REVERSE. Babs spoke up about Hispanics when Sherri made that comment but as usual, Sherri acted like she didn't hear it. Go figure huh? Peace
