Glynn Turman

Emmy award-winning actor Glynn Turman is likely best known as the tough-as-nails Colonel Taylor on NBC's 'A Different World.'

With more than 50 years in show business, Turman has appeared in a variety of television, film and stage projects, among them HBO's 'In Treatment,' which landed him his first Emmy Award for "Outstanding Guest Actor."

After a career that began at 12-years-old in Lorraine Hansberry's landmark Broadway production of 'A Raisin in the Sun' with Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee, Turman has earned three NAACP Image Awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award for Theatre; a Dramalogue Award, and a Los Angeles Critics Award nomination.

The celebrated actor took a moment to share with you, the BV Buzz readers, his favorite holiday activities.

"My favorite thing to do during the holidays has become a 15-year tradition of opening our home to family and friends on Christmas Eve.

My wife cooks up a fantastic pot of gumbo and we enjoy the company of about 100 people throughout the day and well into the night.

We get a good game of bid whist going and it's such a lively atmosphere with music, daGlynn Turmanncing and laughter.

Later on, we break out the dominoes and things can get pretty serious, but of course it's all in fun.

The holiday season is a reminder of how important the simple things in life really are.

Just taking the time to appreciate those who have touched your life in a special way and having the opportunity to bring people together is very meaningful to me.

The smiles, kisses on the cheek, hugs, soul brother hand-shakes, that's what it's all about, bonding and gestures that simply say, thank you, good to see you and I appreciate you.

This is a holiday tradition that my wife and I plan to carry on for many years to come.

Good times and great memories, now that's the gift that keeps on giving." – Glynn Turman, actor/director/producer
