'The View' host Sherri Shepherd covers the latest issue of Precious Times magazine. In an eight-page feature story in the Christian women's lifestyle publication, the 41-year-old comedienne shares candid revelations about her faith, including her conversion from being a Jehovah's Witness to Christianity.
"Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah's Witness. In 1993, my mother was dying from diabetic complications. My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses. I was in a very physically abusive relationship. I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count. I had very low self-esteem and just wanted to die. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn't even make a difference. But God showed me that it would make a difference," she told the glossy.
The Chicago-native, who is currently embroiled in a divorce and custody battle with her husband Jeffrey Tarpley, also confessed that it is hard being taken to task about her faith on the live ABC talk show.
"Oh sometimes I say, 'Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Myers would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved,'" she declared. "I ask the Lord, 'Why am I here?' I have to trust God when He says, 'Because I said so.'"
The former 'Less Than Perfect' star, fresh off a hosting stint at the 'Daytime Emmy Awards,' has lost more than 30 pounds after being diagnosed as a diabetic.
"One day on 'The View' I noticed that we had a lot of big girls in the audience," she recalled. "I told them to stick around because we were going to have a large woman fashion show. They looked at me and said, 'Sherri, you are not a big girl.' I was so embarrassed. However, a lot of women look at me and say I give them hope. I really want them to be healthy. We carry sixty extra pounds on our joints when we're overweight. Some things are just not okay."
In addition to hosting 'The View,' Shepherd will voice two characters in 'Madagascar's' sequel, 'Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.' She also appears in Lee Daniels' forthcoming film, 'Precious,' which stars Mo'Nique, Lenny Kravitz and Paula Patton.

Kelly the Jehovah's Witness' are certianly NOT Christian they are a cult they believe you have to work to get into heaven that is not Christian. Just because someone totes a Bible and quotes verses does not make them a Christian
"Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah's Witness "
Jehovha Witnesses ARE Christians.
I do not agree with their form of christianity, but they are Christians.

MCJ, your comments were right on. I am a student of Jehovahs Witnesses and have gone through most of what Sherri went through in life. Not once would I blame my GOD Jehovah. In fact, Sherri is basically calling Jehovah a liar as Satan did in the beginning.
Stop blaming Jehovah for the imperfection Satan introduced into society. Be gald you still have a chance to make a difference.

One of Jehovah's Witnesses would never kill their unborn child through the evil act of abortion and think that was godly and OK. Sherri was taught how wrong that was growing up and obviously made up her mind that she was going to rebel and go against Almighty God Jehovah's laws against fornication and abortion set out in the Bible. "God knows even the embryo of who we are and all of our parts are down in writing" for him to see before we are born. Psalms 139:14 Her choices were her own decisions to rebel against what she was taught in the Bible by her God fearing father who taught her the truth as Jehovah God teaches all those who really want to know the truth. Remember you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink

TO RAHMI,
Sorry you have been truly misinformed. Jehovah's Witnesses live strictly by bible priciples as Jehovah requires of them. You have it backwards.

Why in the world would anyone attend a church that would kick you out? I know I wouldn't. As long as a person repents then it is up to God what happens to them. I can't imagine belonging to a church that does that. Glad Sheri found her place in life and is comfortable in the life she lives. God Bless her and I hope her light continues to shine. What an inspiration she is. Barbara Walters should be thankful to have her.

When you share your testimony, as embarassing as it may be, it really helps other people who may be going through similar situations.

JW are NOT Christians, they don't believe that if you accept Jesus as your savior, that he is God, you'll go to Heaven. They believe that only 40,000 will go to heaven and that it will ONLY be JW's in that 40,000. Read the bible and you'll see there are many faslehoods in other religions and cults.
