Heather Headley is no longer on RCA Records.
The Tony Award-winning singer, who rose to stardom after originating the title role in Elton John and Tim Rice's Broadway musical 'Aida,' released her debut album 'This Is Who I Am' in 2002.
That CD featured the hits 'He Is' and 'I Wish I Wasn't' and was certified gold.
The 33-year-old singer released her sophomore opus, 'In My Mind,' in 2006. That CD, led by the title track, was certified gold as well.
After two Grammy-nominations and two Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, Headley asked to be released from RCA Records because of creative differences.
"They wanted her to become too sexy. The image that they had for her was very different from the image she has for herself, and let's just say she wasn't interested in taking off her clothes," a source at the label told me.
Headley, a preacher's daughter born in Barataria, Trinidad and Tobago, has now signed on to do an inspirational CD on EMI Gospel, home to Smokie Norful, Kierra Sheard and The Clark Sisters.
That album, Headley's third, will hit stores early this fall.

India.Arie has left the building. Well, not exactly, but she did change floors.
The neo-soul princess was signed to Motown Records, where she released her three albums – 'Acoustic Soul' (2001), 'Voyage to India' (2002) and 'Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship' (2006).
But the 35-year-old singer was unhappy with way Motown handled the latter release and after feeling as though the label's president Sylvia Rhone "didn't believe in her" – as my source put it – she "went upstairs and asked Monte Lipman could she come to Universal."
The two-time Grammy winner confirmed the label change to Fox News columnist Roger Friedman, who spoke with Arie at a recent event at
In addition to jumping ship to Universal, the Denver-bred singer has hit the charts again with the song, 'Heart of the Matter,' her cover of the Don Henley classic.
The song is currently featured in the blockbuster 'Sex and the City' and was used in the commercials to promote the film.
So in addition to being featured on the 'Sex and the City' soundtrack, Universal has shipped the song to radio again with hopes that it will breathe fresh life into the two-year-old gold-selling release, 'Testimony.'
"Hopefully this time it will work," she told Friedman.

Singers Patti Austin and Siedah Garrett are gearing up for an all-female remake of the Quincy Jones-produced love anthem, '
Just in time for the song's 20-year anniversary, the two Jones protégés are hoping to put a ladylike twist on the classic originally recorded by Al B. Sure, El Debarge, James Ingram and the late Barry White.
The two Grammy-winning singers are hoping to find two additional women to help them complete the cover.
"We need a real diva to take over that Barry White dirty-lowdown-sexiness in the original track and that ain't gonna be easy," said Garrett. "Give me Jill Scott and Angie Stone and we are set to go."

The picture of India is a good example of why I never leave home without my oil blotters. I am 2 shades lighter than India. I was recently out on a date with someone very light. We both started sweating on this outside padio. He laughed when I pulled out my blotters. I had to explain to him that dark & shinny is not a good look. I need to email this picture to him.

Grace, you must be color struck!!! Who says Dark and skinny is NOT a good look. Sweety, I am Dark, Petite and BEAUTIFUL, and my husband says the same. Since you're still dating, I guess being 2 shades lighter isn't so great!!
