Is It Really Love?: The Truth About Me & Sherri Shepherd

I'm in the business of reporting the news – not being in it!

I about fell out of my chair on Sunday evening when I got a call telling me that the world's most famous gossip column, 'Page Six' of the New York Post, had a story claiming that I was 'The View' host Sherri Shepherd's new man.

I finally got online to read the story for myself.

Here's a portion of it: "Sherri Shepherd talks all the time about her Christian faith - but she's dating even though she's still legally married... [She] is still technically married to Jeffrey Tarpley, although she has filed for divorce. She brought her new man, John Murray, with her to Nashville the other weekend where they toured the Opryland Outlet Mall and, according to spies, "were very, very affectionate." Shepherd was in the country-music capital to be a presenter at the Stellar Gospel Awards."

First, I laughed that they spelled my name the way it is pronounced!

Then it was obvious to me that no one from the New York Post bothered to reach out to either of her reps, because one of them would have told her that we are [in my Maury Povich voice] NOT dating and that the John in question, is J-A-W-N and not J-O-H-N!

Yeah, it was me with Shepherd at the Opryland Outlet Mall in Nashville. But I brought myself to town for all of the pre-Stellar Gospel Award activities!

I've known Shepherd long before she joined 'The View.' We're just friends – and I don't mean in that Hollywood say-we're-just-friends-but-we're-really-secretly-married-and-she's-expecting-my-child kind of way.

Dating Shepherd would not be a bad thing, if that's what was really going on. I think she's pretty and funny and sexy and spiritual and just an all-around great girl.

But in this case, that's just not the case.

So to all of my relatives calling my mother, please stop!

And to everyone e-mailing me asking about it, here's your answer: NO!

I know I likened myself to Stedman Graham and called her Oprah Winfrey during my radio report last week, but I'm not the kept man that the report makes me look like! (Though I am not ruling out having a Sugar Mamma!)

And I know my co-hosts on the 'Tom Joyner Morning Show' jokingly insinuated there was something going on with the two of us.

But I promise you, it was all in fun!

Now can we go back to talking about Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds please!
