Gabrielle Union is fed up with the way she's been portrayed on many of the Black, non-news blogs. The 35-year-old actress was once a fan of many of the online blogs, but once
"October [2007] was a really bad month for our blogs," the actress began. "It was also the month that I was literally crisscrossing the globe. It was the month that I had where I was not working on a set, where I was lobbying different state legislatures to get more funding for centers and I'm going to all these different breast cancer events all around the country."
The Omaha, Nebraska-bred talent said that she was chastised by the blogs for jet-setting across the country for her charitable causes. Instead of reporting why
"Anytime you try to negate my voice and my character and what I stand for, you're squashing all of the good work that I'm trying to do for our community. I'm talking about African-American assault victims, African-American breast cancer statistics. I'm not talking about any other community, I'm talking about us and anytime that you try and attack me and attack my character, you're attacking my voice. If no one else is speaking up about these things then we're shooting ourselves in the foot," she vented.

"I almost get to a point where you can say whatever you want to say about me, but print some facts about our community that can help somebody," she explained.
"I don't care because I combat lies. I really used to think that if you read it and you see it and it's in a magazine, a newspaper or you see it on TV, then it has to be true. And it's just not true! I don't even know how to combat that except for do more good things for the people that I care about which is my own community."
Last fall the Neutrogena spokesmodel was the subject of the blogs, a New York gossip column and one of the tabloids, which had her romantically linked to Michael Jordan, actor Hill Harper, and both rapper Ludacris and his manager, Chaka Zulu
all in the same week.
"It's sad that people who have that forum where you have all this traffic... If I really did get arrested or stole someone's flipping husband and the wife was calling me, sure. So if I do it, talk about it. I own that, I screwed up. It's never happened! Don't create crap that is negating one of the few voices in our community that
In May 2001,
actually likes Black people, loves Black men and is actually trying to do something for our community and make changes. Don't try to kill that voice along with your stories so that you can get a couple of more subscribers. It's just bulls--t and its unfortunate," she concluded.

As a black woman we should be supporting each other. I admire Gabrielle Union for her courage, her tallent and her grace. She portrays black woman on TV with elegance. We should be supporting people like her and not tear them down.

I'm very dissappointed in just a few of the comments(5&7) but I think that collectively, most of us understand that Gabrielle represents literally only a handfull of black actresses who haven't sold their soul to hollywood and is still able to hold it down ligitamately for our sisters in roles that doesn't depict them as dancers, hoes, or crackheads or getting banged from the back by a white man to get an oscar. Also, I work at Walter Reed and she's the only high profile black actress that I've seen come through to visit the wounded warriors. Denzel and Samuel have come a few times.

Perhaps Gabby needs her PR team to work overtime to publicize the work she's doing. That's why you hire a good team...so they can work on your behalf.
AND...if she wasn't out partying every night of the week, then there would be no rumors started. If you're in a city on business, and everytime a picture is snapped it's of you with a different man and a drink in your hand...that's your issue. Have your people plant photographers of you speaking at these many events you mentioned.
These celebs trip me out...if no one is talking about you that's when you worry...any publicity is good publicity.
Oh..and I hate to tell her that there are multiple African Americans who have a voice on issues pertaining to us. She doesn't have a monopoly on that.

I agree with gabby 100% black people are MOSTLY! so terrible and ignorant its a wonder we haven't gone extinct. Everytime we get a good thing we have to knock it down and talk negatively. Im sick of it. I see so many other communities who can create business together keep a cleaner neighborhood, and raise decent children....and what are we doing letting our young boys walk around with stupid multi-colored braids and sagging pants down their asses and can't even read at a 10th grade level, its insulting to see many young cats carry on this way. Materialistic values are killing most of this community. Black people want to get it but dont want to work hard from and dont get me started on our females the majority of them are tacky and look like something that came out of a magazine. And have the perception that we all need to wear baby phat and act like a skank. Yet here we go with Gabby a decent sexy black strong woman who is by perception only cause i dont know her personally a woman who seems to have some sense yet she is the one we try to call a hoe and any other uncalled for names. Tearing down the ones that are trying to do things better for our community is not the option we should be tearing down ourselves and starting over figure out what we can do to be better as a people. I'm telling yall we are falling behind in large numbers change your selves or see us falling off track.

I am not dismissing the fact that she is out there doing a lot of good...but you're 35 years old; out there partying every other night like you're 25. If you want to be taken as a professional, business-minded, etc; than it's best that you stay away from the camera. I have sat in countless meetings, listening to women who have been raped, abused, molested, etc...yet they do not pose semi-nude (I say semi, due to her having a sheet covering some of her body). You don't want to be known as a homewrecker, yet you are forever taking pictures with someone else's husband. You don't want to be linked to all of these rappers, actors, and ball players...yet there are sites showing you clubbing out, looking "geeked" out, in short dresses, hugged up, booty poppin, etc with all sorts of men. So, to simply put it out there...If you would rather be known for what good you do...maybe it's best to stop showing your other side. Everyone has the right to enjoy themselves, but look at other women in your profession and those that are a lot more popular: Sanai (maybe mispelled), the ladies from the show "Girlfriends", Tia, Tamara, Tamela, etc...Ms. Union is becoming "supahead" by sight. Believe me, I am no where close to hating...I believe that if you are doing good for yourself and giving back to your community...then Kudos! But, like I tell the teens and adults in our meetings...You are a product of your words, until your actions show differently. You can't say..."I'm not a ho"...yet everytime people see you...you're on the arm of a different man. Claiming "we are just friends"...we are all adults...that "just a friend" phrase when out with Biz Markie.

Black people simply put like to live in a crab in the barrel syndrome. Once we see you up, we've gotta do something to tear you down. If you think she cant act, how would you feel if the shoe were on the other foot? Not very good I suppose. Not to separate the races, but white entertainers seem to thrive off stupid publicity (and even some black entertainers as well). Case in point O.J. Simpson, Brittney Spears but at some point it become irresponsible for someone to post something thats simply not true. Instead always seeking the negative or looking for some drama - can we please look for some postive?

It's always sad to see beautiful, smart, talented black people being torn apart by other black people. Sometimes as black women we are each other's worst enemies. Let's be more positive and encourage our beautiful black people who are representing us in the movie industry. I don't care how many man she sleeps with. I'm just hoping she will be the next Halley berry and win an Oscar. Stop destroying each other's image. Why can't we just encourage and honor each other.

It's difficult for a person of poor judgement and low self-esteem to say anything positive about anyone, including themselves so from time to time you will read negative and rumored comments from people such as this. Just remember, they're not your friend and they're not family, so they don't matter. They believe that their negative comments really matter and they believe that hurting someone helps them feel better about who they but nothing could be further from the truth. Brothers and sisters, it's time to be more positive and more intelligent about how we portray others and ourselves. Peace.
